AnnArbor.com recently reported that Ann Arbor Civic Theatre company members recently involved in presenting an excerpt of "Leaving Iowa" at an American Association of Community Theatres festival in Kalamazoo cleaned up, in terms of awards, and will head next to a regional competition in Wisconsin. In anticipation of that trip, though, A2CT will offer one public performance of the excerpt on Saturday, April 6 at 8 p.m.

Complete details are found in A2CT's press release:

Ann Arbor Civic Theatre’s excerpt from the 2012 production of "Leaving Iowa" by Tim Clue and Spike Manton received first place at the state AACT Fest competition in February and will advance to the regional competition in Wisconsin April 19-21, 2013. A public performance of the excerpt will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in the A2CT Studio Theater, 322 West Ann St, Ann Arbor, MI, 48104. Seating for the performance is general admission, with donations encouraged to help defray the cost of taking the excerpt to Wisconsin. For additional information, visit www.a2ct.org or call 734-971-2228.

A2CT’s entry for Michigan’s competition of the American Association of Community Theatre’s annual theatre festival took first place among ten entries from around the state. It will advance to the 5-state regional competition in Wisconsin, and the first place entry in the regional competition will advance to the National AACT Fest competition in Indiana in June.

"Leaving Iowa" pays homage to the classic family road trip. Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, returns home to take his deceased father’s ashes back to the family home, as requested. After discovering that the family home has been torn down and replaced with a grocery store, he begins a journey across Iowa searching for a proper resting place for his father. This “father-and-son” road trip shifts from the present to Don’s memories of all the past family road trips which were full of memories—good and bad. The talented and versatile cast of "Leaving Iowa" features Nick Boyer as Don, Matt Steward as Dad, Kathleen Beardmore as Mom, and Dana Denha as Sis. The cast also includes Isaac Ellis, Cassie Mann, and Steven White playing multiple characters.
