Local singers perform as the Andrews Sisters on Saturday night at Kerrytown Concert House.

As a Veterans Day tribute, at 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday at Kerrytown Concert House, three local singers - Elizabeth Major, Monica Swartout-Bebow and Wendy Bloom - will pay tribute to the Andrews Sisters.

The harmonizing Andrews Sisters had several hits and provided wartime entertainment for American servicemen in the 40s, often performing for and visiting wounded soldiers.

Accompanying the singers at KCH will be Pete Ford on piano, Aaron Keaster on bass, Steve Fentriss, on drums, and Dave Sycks on trumpet. Harry Bowen, of EMU marching band announcer fame, will narrate.

Tickets cost $15-$35. For reservations, call 734-769-2999, or visit www.kerrytownconcerthouse.com.

  • Andrew Lapin: Celluloid cynicism in our generation

  • We live in cynical times. Our generation was brought up to question authority, challenge the status quo and distrust other people, and that’s just the way we are. And that’s cool. I’m definitely a sarcastic, doubtful person myself. But there’s something I’ve been wondering about us.

  • Pretty scenery, empty people in 'New Moon'
  • November 22, 2009, 7:24 PM
  • The inescapable cultural phenomenon surrounding “The Twilight Saga” gets its second film installment in “New Moon,” carrying on the story of Bella and Edward’s tortured teen romance. But there’s more to these films than simply retelling the stories of the books. It creates something new: a crop of talented teen idols who could become part of the next generation of A-List Hollywood actors.
