Ann Arbor Film Festival receives $40,000 grant from Warhol Foundation
The Ann Arbor Film Festival has received a $40,000 two-year grant from the Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to present special programs at the 52nd and 53rd festivals, taking place in March of 2014 and 2015.
The Warhol Foundation grant will allow the AAFF to present at least nine special programs and one performance program at each of the two future festivals.
For the past decade, the AAFF has presented single-artist retrospectives, audio-visual performances, and special themed programs in addition to more than 100 new works in competition annually. The grant comes at a time when the AAFF has placed a great deal of importance on its programming. “It’s an honor to have such an esteemed and respected organization support the type of work screening in Ann Arbor. This is a great accomplishment for the AAFF and will allow us to present a much greater breadth and depth of artists' film and moving image media,” said AAFF program director David Dinnell in a press release.
The AAFF is the second oldest annual film festival in North America and the first U.S. film festival to focus on the films of independent artists working in short format and experimental techniques. The AAFF received a Warhol Grant in 2008 to support the Festival’s fight against state censorship.
The 51st AAFF will take place March 19-24, 2013. It will feature approximately 180 films in more than 40 programs, along with free panels, lectures and after-parties. The full program of films will be announced March 1, 2013.
The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the longest running independent and experimental film festival in North America. It is internationally recognized as a premier forum for film as an art form. We receive more than 3,000 submissions annually from more than 70 countries. The AAFF serves as one of a handful of Academy Award-qualifying festivals in the United States. As a pioneer of the traveling film festival tour, the AAFF visits more than 35 theaters, universities, museums and art house cinemas around the world each year.
