The last night of Top of the Park 2012.

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival today released its lineup for this year's Top of the Park, the popular, free annual outdoor event.

The Summer Festival runs June 14-July 7 this year. Top of the Park, which takes place in the Ingalls Mall area of East Washington Street, features live music six nights a week, along with socializing, food booth, special events and more. As in recent years, voting by the public helped determine the movies being shown. Sunday and Tuesday-Thursday nights, the evening ends with a movie on a large inflatable screen; on weekends, the music goes later, ending with a DJ set. Top of the Park admission is free, though donations are encouraged.

The Summer Festival also includes indoor, ticketed events. That schedule was released earlier, along with two special Top of the Park attractions—a changing art installation called "Tangle" and an interactive projection experience called "Superhero." Body Masterpiece face painters will also be on hand one weekend.

On Mondays, when the Summer Festival is officially "dark," it will bring back its series of "33 1/3" reading and listening parties about classic albums, held at Arbor Brewing Co.

For more information, see the festival website. The full announcement can be downloaded here. Top-of-the-Park-2013.pdf

Bob, IF you are allowed to editorialize, what are a couple of "must-see" acts on this list?

Just Be Nice

Tue, May 7, 2013 : 7:15 p.m.

Some great entertainment, but no Billy Mack? No Cadillac Cowboys? Bummer!

JRW

I really liked this event when they held it on top of the parking garage on Fletcher St. I like it less now that it's on Ingalls Mall. It's gotten too big and too commercialized, just like the Art Fair, which used to be fun and manageable. Now it's a monster and the quality has deteriorated. Too bad everything good in Ann Arbor gets bloated and overly commercialized.

Sorry to diagree but the current venue is far superior to the old one. Better view, more trees, more food and beer, etc.

Usual Suspect

Tue, May 7, 2013 : 6:01 p.m.

Nobody goes to Top Of The Park anymore. It's too crowded.

Yogi Berra.

How can people still be ignorant of Yogi Berra-isms? More proof that if the world were perfect, it wouldn't be.

So excited to get to see "Rocky Horror" at 10:00 PM instead of at Midnight with a crowd. I'm getting old...:-)

Remember when it played every weekend at the Briarwood movies? Saw it lots of times there.

Something for everyone (except hip-hop fans). Missed the 33 1/3 last year, but count me in for Banana Night with VU & Nico. So glad winter's over.

Silly Sally

Nice, wholesome movies that one can bring her family to; "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and " The Hunger Games" almost back to back. Surely they can do much better. Next year, the 1975 "Deep Throat" once almost in the same league as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", produced about the same time. At least George Bedard is headlining the last concert at the end.

I'd be more concerned about how they portray Long Duk Dong in Sixteen Candles....the PC police will be in a tizzy.

HENDRIX242

Does a summer fest or art fair go buy with out Bedard?

Olive

Tue, May 7, 2013 : 4:58 p.m.

Personally, I think the movie line-up is wonderful mix. I don't get why you would think that all movies screened at 10:00 p.m. should be for kids.

Tue, May 7, 2013 : 3:22 p.m.

Rocky Horror is a great film! It's got a beginning, middle and an ending, very whole-some.

Brian Peters

Tue, May 7, 2013 : 2:54 p.m.

Also, as I recall, there is a scene in BIG where Tom Hanks, who is essentially playing a young boy, is seduced by a full grown woman; whose bra is showing!!! Heavens me! Lordy, Lordy! My delicate nature... Good thing I don't have any children, otherwise, like me, they'd surely be scarred for life, just as I was when I saw BIG as a young man. Guess I'll just have to enjoy one of the other TWENTY FOUR nights of events, and or just go home a bit early after already enjoying five hours of great entertainment provided to me for FREE.

Actually I think there is a great mix of movies this year, something for everybody. And not sure if "wholesome family movies" are a requirement for all 10:00 PM showings... Sounds like have a good filter for certain material... seems pretty simple - don't take the family those nights!

Arboriginal

Tue, May 7, 2013 : 2:03 p.m.

You should probably skip Moonrise Kingdom. There are parts that might get you hot and bothered!

Arboriginal

Another year and another great lineup!
