Three local residents to compete in Miss Michigan USA pageant

Three local residents will compete for the title of Miss Michigan USA Sept 28-29 in Port Huron. More than 100 young women will take part in the competition.

Rachel Smith, Elise Jayakar and Jacqueline Craig will be among the participants.

Smith, an Ann Arbor resident, holds the title of Miss Ann Arbor.

Jayakar is a Pioneer High grad attending Washtenaw Community College who will represent Battle Creek in the competition.

Craig is a finance major at the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University, from Ypsilanti and originally from Belleville.

The final competition, which will be held at the McMorran Entertainment Center on September 29 at 6:30 p.m., consists of three proportional segments: evening gown, fitness/swimsuit and a final question.

Miss Michigan USA 2013 will claim the title and a prize list that includes travel, wardrobe, college scholarships and the chance to represent Michigan in the Miss USA pageant.

Miss USA ultimately goes on to represent the United States in the Miss Universe competition.

The preliminary show and competition will be held at the McMorran Entertainment Center on Friday, September 28 at 8 p.m.
