Art on South U. that's worth a closer look
When you first see Jerry Berta's works on South University, the thing that grabs your attention is the way neon is integrated into the miniature diners, drive-in, and bars.
But being the movie lover — and movie theater lover — that I am, I lingered at the Star Theater piece, only to look inside and notice that you could watch the film listed on the theater's marquee and posters: "It's a Wonderful Life."

You can't hear the sound, but if you're as much of a sucker for this film as I am, you can supply the lines yourself.
(A mother and her 10- or 11-year-old son were looking in the booth when I drew their attention to the movie. "That's really cool," the boy said. "Do you think you get the movie when you buy that?" "I'd think so," said the boy's mother. "That's probably part of why it's $1,900.")

Hands down the most disappointing art fair I've been to. Wading through the usual trinkets, crafts and overdose of jewelry I was ready to bail. True to form: Its not art and it's not fair...
