Arts Alliance awards minigrants

The Arts Alliance, Washtenaw County's arts-support organization, today announced 10 minigrants totaling $19,600 of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs money.

MCACA is the state organization that presents grants to arts and culture organizations; the Arts Alliance is the locally designated re-granter for smaller awards. MCACA announced its own local grants last week.

According to a press release from the Arts Alliance, 2010 grant recipients are: • Howell's Sunday Farmer's Market Entertainment Program, $2,900 • Saline Celtic Festival Artistic Entertainment, $1,500 • Saline Puppetry Arts Festival, $2,000 • Dexter Orchestra Summer Community Events, $500 • Sharing Our Attributes Resourcefully for Judendstil-Ypsi, $500 • Arbor Opera Theatre, $4,000 for Lucia di Lammermoor • Youth Dance Theater, $1,500 for Sleeping Beauty • Arbor Cantata Singers, $1,200 for Bach: St. John Passion • Ozone House, Inc., $4,000 for Project Speak OUT • Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, $1,500 for Performances on the Lawn According to the release, "The MCACA Minigrant Program awards up to $4,000 to nonprofit organizations. Applicants must be from Livingston, Monroe or Washtenaw County and may be arts or non-arts nonprofit organizations, public or private schools, cities, townships or villages. Award decisions are based on the application's score out of total possible points, the reviewers' discretion on how funds should be dispersed in order to make the most meaningful impact on the community, and the amount of funding available."
