Arts Alliance will hold public forum on space needs Thursday

By Jenn McKee

NOTE: Story has been updated to reflect a date change.

The Arts Alliance will hold a public forum on Thursday, June 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Kerrytown Concert House, 415 North Fourth Ave., in order to gather input about the space needs of local artists and cultural organizations.

The event is open to anyone interested in arts and culture in Washtenaw County.

In February 2010, the Arts Alliance and the Allen Creek Greenway Conservancy were invited by the City of Ann Arbor to partner with it in exploring ways to transform the property at 415 W. Washington Street into a community arts center and greenway park; the data-gathering event at the Kerrytown Concert House is a part of the Arts Alliance's research into community needs. Following this, the Arts Alliance plans to study community arts centers nationwide and present possible scenarios to the public for review and comment.

The Arts Alliance's data-gathering is supported in part by the Cultural Alliance for Southeast Michigan, the Michigan Nonprofit Association, the Ford Foundation and the Kresge Foundation. Ann Arbor Mayor John Hieftje chairs the Greenway Arts Steering Committee that is overseeing the year-long project to study and make recommendations to City Council about the transformation of 415 West Washington Street into a greenway park and arts center.
