Last time on "The Biggest Loser" (3-minute recap):

After 4 months of transforming their bodies, host Alison announced that the final 6 would be getting makeovers, complete with a $1,000 shopping spree and a night out at a concert to show off their new looks. The hopefuls delighted in being able to find clothes in regular stores (Koli was seen doing the cabbage patch in a sharp blazer!), with the exception of Michael, who's lost over 180 pounds but sizewise is still in the "big & tall store" zone.

To complement their new duds, celebrity hair stylist Jonathan Antin gave the contenders new coifs, and loved ones were on hand to see the new looks. As Alison explained before the concert, makeover week is her favorite part of "The Biggest Loser" because it gives the hopefuls the opportunity to appreciate who they are now. For their musical enjoyment, Ashanti performed at the ranch and shared in an interview that following her dreams contributed to her success in showbiz, similar to how the competitors' determination has helped them progress in their weight-loss journeys.

But the competitors didn't make their transformations by being pampered, so next on the agenda was a challenge. Each competitor had a ladder-style climbing treadmill and 2 options: keep climbing or fall off. The last person left on their ladder would win a 1-pound advantage at the weigh-in, while the first to fall would get a 1-pound disadvantage. After 3 minutes, Ashley was the first out. Two hours into the challenge, Daris and Koli were the last competitors standing, and with Koli showing no signs of tiring, Daris gave up.

At the weigh-in, Koli lost 15 pounds (6.18%) before figuring in his 1-pound advantage, bringing his total weight loss to 159 pounds. Ashley, who lost the challenge, rose to the occasion, losing 10 pounds (3.63%) — and having lost a total of 136 pounds, set a new record for "Biggest Loser" female contenders. Another tough decision was to be made at elimination, with Michael and Sam on the chopping block. While Sam argued that he's worked hard each week, Michael pointed out that he too has made great progress but has a long road ahead and could benefit from more time on the ranch.

A combination of Michael's plea, plus admitted strategy on some of the remaining contenders' parts, led to a tie. In the event of a tie, the person in the bottom two with the lower percentage of weight loss is sent home, this week being Sam. But true to form, Sam left the ranch with inspiring words for his brother Koli: "It's not about winning (the competition) that makes you a champion. ... It's knowing in your heart that you were a champion before you even arrived at this ranch, because that's how your little brother has always seen you."
