Blackbird Theatre offers discount tickets for Shakespeare West on Friday

This Friday, May 13, tickets for the Blackbird Theatre’s summer-long outdoor Shakespeare Festival in West Park are just $13.

Ann Arbor’s new Shakespeare Festival is offering this one-day deal to kick off the summer festivities. To purchase now, go to www.blackbirdtheatre.org and click on "Our 2010-11 Season." There you will find a full schedule of performances. Pick your dates and buy your tickets for nearly half the regular price. The season features five of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays, performed in the open air Fridays and Saturdays all summer long:

"The Tempest," June 3-25 See the Bard’s final masterpiece as you have never seen it before. Kick off Shakespeare West with this thrilling new production featuring four actors playing all roles.

"Much Ado About Nothing," July 8-30 Modern love under the stars! A wild new take on the world’s greatest romantic comedy. Beatrice and Benedick are played as two women, Hero and Claudio as two men, in a bold new production from director Brian Carbine.

The Blackbird Theatre Academy presents "Pericles, Prince of Tyre," August 5-13 All Kerrytown is a stage! Audiences begin at the Blackbird Theatre at 325 Braun Court, and then follow the all-teen cast on a daring adventure through the streets. Lost at sea, Pericles fights to regain his estranged wife and child, in and out of royal courts and bawdy-houses. An adventure for all ages.

"Twelfth Night," August 19-September 3 Return to West Park for a late-60s rock n’ roll circus. Illyria is re-imagined as a decadent island paradise of wild excess and danger. Dust off your dashiki and turn on with our crazed collection of bohemians, bikers and bamboozlers!

"Othello," September 9-October 1 Shakespeare’s controversial revenge thriller. A heroic Moorish soldier is plunged into a web of violence and deception. For mature audiences.
