Bob Seger to tour with Silver Bullet Band; cities and dates still to come

By Bob Needham

As hinted at yesterday on his website, Ann Arbor favorite son Bob Seger announced today he's going on tour with his Silver Bullet Band.

But that's pretty much all he announced.

A brief video recently posted on the website announces that "an American icon returns to the stage: Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band live — on tour and coming to a city near you."

But there are no further details yet. We're told to keep watching BobSeger.com for "tour dates and ticket info." The Associated Press reports that the tour will start in March, and that he'll play old favorites as well as songs off an expected upcoming album.

Seger, 65, grew up and started playing music in Ann Arbor, and grew into an international star while staying based in Michigan. His long career includes countless hits like "Night Moves," "Rock and Roll Never Forgets," "Against the Wind," and "Old Time Rock and Roll." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

His music has demonstrated considerable staying power: His "Greatest Hits" was the best-selling album on Billboard's catalog chart for the first decade of the 2000s. A short tour in 2006-07, including dates at Cobo Hall in Detroit, was widely assumed at the time to be his concert swan song, but he told radio host Dick Purtan last year he hoped to tour again.

Any chance of a homecoming date here in Ann Arbor? We'll keep things updated on AnnArbor.com as soon as we know more ...

I met Bob Seger several times back in the day. He's gotta be the nicest man in Rock n Roll. Always very cordial & never seemed to be full of himself. Yes it would be nice to see him @ Chrysler. Do you remember Bob Seger & the Last Heard or The Bob Seger System? That's when he really Rocked! And he was the lead guitarist too.

How about Pioneers auditorium? Put on two shows. One for present students at Pioneer and one for past. Though some of the present students would say, 'Who's Bob Seger?'

Be a real hero Bob! Why not cap your career by showing your appreciation to your original fans! After all without Ann Arbor you would have never had the inspiration for such hits as 'down on main street'.

It would be so fitting if Seger would include his home town of Ann Arbor as well as local venues like Eastern Michigan University in nearby Ypsilanti. Why not also include the hometowns of all the silver bullet band members. After all I assume this upcoming tour is not all about money but about giving back to the fans especially local fans who helped him get his whirlwind start in the music industry. All of Michigan has been devastated by the loss of jobs in the past few years so I hope Seger would keep that in mind and keep the ticket prices at a minimum so those local fans that have been so hard hit can take part in this great musical tribute and event. Of course I would include the cobo hall venue again as well as Toledo where Seger got his foothold and took root on the worldwide music scene. How great would it be if Seger would do at least one or two free shows locally to show his appreciation and concern for his original fan base.

We have quite a few good venue's here in town, Crisler, an outdoor at the bighouse, The Convo seats a few thousand, and of course he could do high price intimate venues like Michigan, Powercenter, Hill... If 100+k will pack the big house for a game, of course they will come from Detroit, Lansing, Toledo for Mr Seger?

Rock and Roll Never Forgets, but apparently Bob does. He hasn't put a great rock 'n' roll album since Live Bullet! Please, Bob, no more ballads, and no more guest stars on stage like Kid Schlock!

haha. and see the place crumble to the ground? the problem is that bob seger will sell out every venue he plays in michigan. whens the last time Crisler arena has been tested for that many people?? not safe....not safe at all. not to mention he'll be doing numerous shows in detroit, right down the road. Breslin is bigger, nicer, and a better centralized location, but i'm not holding my breath....

Maybe they could call it the Stewed Prunes Tour.
