Meet local author Susan Douglas to discuss her new book "Enlightened Sexism"
Nicola’s Books would like to welcome back award-winning author Susan Douglas to discuss her new non-fiction book, “Enlightened Sexism.” Susan is the Catherine Neafie Kellogg Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Michigan, where she is also chair of that department. Besides writing books Susan is also a senior editor at the news magazine “In These Times,” where her column “Back Talk” appears in each issue.
Susan has two other well known books: “The Mommy Myth” and “Where the Girls Are.” It was with “The Mommy Myth” that Susan first visited our bookstore. Even though Susan deals with the contentious issues of feminism and cultural stereotyping of women, her writing style is most engaging and entertaining. Her new book, “Enlightened Sexism,” is a critique of the myths about equality, ambition and femininity in our current media-crazed culture.
We are very excited to have Susan join us again for a night of discussion and book signing. Come and meet Susan Douglas Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Nicola’s Books. Please contact us at 734-662-0600 or at nicolasbooks@tds.net if you have any questions about this event.
