Cabaret fundraiser to aid Arbor Opera Theater

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Arbor Opera Theater, Ann Arbor's local opera company, is presenting a cabaret fundraiser called "Vive La France" on Sunday for two seatings at the Earle.

The event features dinner and performances by local cabaret icons William Bolcom and Joan Morris, as well as AOT artists performing jazz, musical theater and popular song selections.

Special guests Bolcom and Morris have performed to sold out shows across the country. The Chicago Sun-Times hailed the couple as “the best thing to happen to American popular song since the invention of sheet music.” This husband and wife duo combines their talents of composition, performance, and witty banter to create a distinctive evening of exquisite entertainment.

The cabaret is part of Arbor Opera Theater’s efforts to fund their June production of Bizet’s Carmen. “We are extremely honored that Mr. Bolcom and Ms. Morris have graciously donated their talents to our spring fundraiser,” said Shawn McDonald, artistic director and president of AOT. “With ticket sales covering only half of production costs, fundraising efforts are vital for opera companies to bring quality productions to audiences.”

This event also features a variety of silent auction items donated by local businesses and patrons. The auction includes a private dinner and concert in the artistic director’s home, handmade quilts, spa services, and autographed CDs by Bolcom and Morris.

Seatings are planned at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Earle, 121 W. Washington St. Admission is $25 or $40, plus the cost of food.
