Cable TV series on adoption tonight features Ann Arbor birth mother

By Bob Needham

A documentary TV series about birth mothers in adoption cases Monday night focuses on an Ann Arbor resident as one of its two stories.

"I’m Having Their Baby," on the Oxygen cable channel, looks at the adoption process from the perspective of the birth mother. Each episode showcases two women and their decisions.

According to Oxygen's episode guide for tonight's show, "29-year-old Lindsay is a socially conscious, politically active, all-natural kind of woman. Before starting a home in Ann Arbor, MI with her now four-year-old son Eli, she dreamt of joining the Peace Corps. Knowing how much work and how expensive raising one child is, Lindsay knows that she cannot afford another, let alone the twins she is carrying. Lindsay has selected the perfect adoptive family for her twins, but before she gives them up, she wants to bring them into the world on her own terms in a way unique to her personality and lifestyle. Can she convince this straight-forward couple to let her have the all-natural, at-home birth she’s always dreamed of, or will they put a stop to her "free" birth and opt for something less Lindsay, but also less risky and safer for everyone in the long run?"

The episode is scheduled for 11 p.m. Monday night on Oxygen, which is widely available on cable and satellite TV systems. It is scheduled to be shown again Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 10 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 30 at 2 a.m. and 9 a.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m.

More information is available on the series' website.

that was the most amazing story in a long time! Good for Lindsay and her trust in her body! My respect to her decision and her overcoming all the obstacles! God bless her!

An at-home birth with twins is a very risky move. I'm all for the home birth for low-risk pregnancies, but nearly every woman I know who has done it, ended up at the hospital due to a complication. Personally, I wouldn't want to take a chance on my life of the life of my child.

Xmo, the "right thing" is whatever the woman feels is best for her. It's called CHOICE. It's the right that thinks their way is the only way.
