South Park muzzled; Ann Arbor on Jeopardy!; American Idiot on Broadway; and more

By Bob Needham

An episode of "South Park" that aired last night was altered over objections to depictions of the prophet Muhammad, The New York Times' Arts Beat blog reports.

A more extended piece at CNN.com wonders if this time the show went too far, and the Huffington Post adds some additional perspective.

Meanwhile, E!Online tries to answer the question of whether the creators are in actual danger (concluding probably not).

Other entertainment news of note on the web today:

Amy Wilson

MORE TELEVISION

Amy Wilson, of Ann Arbor and Portland, Ore., made her second appearance on "Jeopardy!" last night, but this time came in second place. The fan site J! Archive lets you follow along with every question and answer — put your cursor over the prize money to see the response and who made it. (Tuesday's game, in which Wilson won $19,999, wasn't posted yesterday, but it is up now.) That makes 3 days in a row that Ann Arbor was represented on "Jeopardy!" — Who's got next?

• The Detroit Free Press has a feature on "You Don't Know Jack," the HBO movie about Jack Kevorkian that debuts this weekend.

• EW.com's "American Idol" recap — which I for one find far more entertaining than the actual show — gives the full rundown on this year's "Idol Gives Back" fundraiser, at which the contestant pool was trimmed from 7 to 6. And apparently the Heckler Spray blog couldn't be happier.

David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Barack Obama, is set to appear on the "Tonight" show on Friday.

• Recaps of Tuesday's night's "Lost" seemed to be curiously tardy online yesterday, but now things are catching up. MLive.com runs down the basics, while EW.com offers its usual exhaustive analysis.

MUSIC

• Thanks to YouTube, here's a taste of Martin Sexton's appearance at the downtown Borders store yesterday:

THEATER

• Writing in the Free Press, John Monaghan raves about "Spring Awakening," the touring version of the hit Broadway musical now at the Fisher Theatre.

• "American Idiot," the new stage musical based on the music of Green Day, opened on Broadway on Tuesday. The New York Times loved the show, while the Washington Post was considerably less impressed. Overall, reviews were strong enough that the Los Angeles Times' The Envelope blog wonders about the show's chances at the Tony Awards.

MOVIES

• The Free Press previews the Lenore Marwil Jewish Film Festival, starting Sunday at Ann Arbor's Michigan Theater and elsewhere. Jenn McKee posted a preview of the local events yesterday.

COMEDY

• Tickets for Conan O'Brien's only Michigan appearance on his stand-up tour go on sale today for Michigan State University students, MLive.com reports.

• The Detroit News reports on 8 Michigan college students, including one from Pinckney, in a national comedy competition.

AND FINALLY ...

• Entertainment celebrities are expected to be out in force for the Earth Day celebration in Washington, D.C., according to MTV.com. They just care so much, you know?
