American Idol updates; Betty White on SNL; Art Center video; and more

Lots of news about "American Idol" on the web this morning.

First, what we all like best — the controversies: EOnline reports that a past show-biz venture has a bunch of parents angry at Top 24 contestand Todrick Hall. The Grand Rapids Press says that some West Michigan families are among the unhappy ones.

Also, the Foxes on Idol blog has more details on the bouncing of contestant Chris Golightly. Meanwhlie, the Los Angeles Times' Idol Tracker blog says Golightly is shopping an autobiography.

Elsewhere in Idol-ville, The Huffington Post has some thoughts on the idea of Howard Stern replacing Simon Cowell. Apparently season 8 contestant Allison Iraheta will appear on this week's results show. And the Toledo Blade has a profile of Crystal Bowersox, one of the Top 24 who lives in that area.

• In a report that's being picked up by everyone else, EW.com says that the campaign to get Betty White to host "Saturday Night Live" is close to succeeding. Meanwhile, MTV.com reports that a Twitter campaign had apparently landed Justin Bieber a spot on the show.

Sarah Palin and Lindsey Vonn will be among Jay Leno's first guests when he returns to "The Tonight Show" next week.

MOVIES

"Captain Eo" is returning to the Tomorrowland theater at Disney World. The 3-D musical short stars Michael Jackson and was directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

• The LA Times' Top of the Ticket blog has some interesting thoughts about all the philosophizing over "Avatar."

• Buzz is building over the new version of "Alice in Wonderland." Mia Wasikowska, who plays Alice, is excited for audiences to see Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. And MTV.com spoke to Depp about his long collaboration with director Tim Burton.

• MTV.com runs down the various projects ahead for Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio in the wake of "Shutter Island." The two may team up yet again for a biopic of Frank Sinatra.

• The LA Times' Gold Derby blog has some fresh Oscar nuggets.

COMICS

• A copy of Action Comics No. 1, featuring the first appearance of Superman, sold for $1 million, believed to be the highest price ever paid for a comic book.

MUSIC

Eminem has made his first concert announcement of the year — for a date in Scotland.

Abbey Road Studios was designated a historic site today by the British government.

• The New York Times reports that Placido Domingo will undergo surgery after experiencing severe abdominal pain.

BOOKS

• New Yorker editor (and Pulitzer Prize winner) David Remnick will publish a new biography of Barack Obama in April.

ART & EXHIBITS

The Toledo Museum of Art is showing an exhibit of James Whistler prints, the Toledo Blade reports.

Thanks for the mention of the Ann Arbor Art Center video. The 30x30 fundraiser was an incredible event- great to see the excitement for art in our community!
