Purple Rose "Gravity" reviews; Conan O'Brien on Twitter; "Idol" men flop; and more

In the Detroit Free Press today, John Monaghan reviews "Gravity," the new play at Chelsea's Purple Rose Theatre.

Other entertainment items of note on the web this morning:

MOVIES

• Yahoo's OMG blog reports that David Goyer, the super-successful writer ("The Dark Knight," "Blade," etc.) who is originally from Ann Arbor (and a graduate of Huron High School), may get involved with the next Superman movie.

Speedy Gonzalez is getting his own feature film, and George Lopez will do the voice, according to the New York Times.

• Apparently Matt Damon is close to a deal to play Bobby Kennedy in a biopic.

• The Grand Rapids Press says that Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart will be among the presenters for this year's Academy Awards.

• MTV.com breaks down the five top contenders to star in the upcoming Captain America movie.

COMICS

• Speaking of the Captain, a recent issue with references to the "tea party" movement has apparently not been recalled, as some reports have said, although those references will be removed from reprints.

• The Michigan Daily today has a feature on Ann Arbor's Vault of Midnight comic store. And here's an AnnArbor.com feature on the store from last July.

ART & EXHIBITS

• The Detroit News has a story about the new Islamic gallery at the Detroit Institute of Arts. And the Detroit Free Press highlights a few of the items on display.

TELEVISION

• Following up on a disappointing first effort by the top 12 women on "American Idol," the top 12 men didn't do any better, MTV.com reports. And here's People.com's rundown. Tim Urban, the late replacement contestant, did especially poorly, says the Associated Press.

• Apparently Conan O'Brien is killing time post-"Tonight Show" with Twitter. And after only 3 hours on the system, he already had 100,000 followers.

• Ken Tucker of EW.com took the bullet for the rest of us, watching "Octomom"'s appearance on "The View" and summarizing the predictable nuttiness.

Charlie Sheen's entry into rehab is sparking concerns about the future of "Two and a Half Men."

MUSIC

• MLive.com reports on "Drop the World," the upcoming videa from Eminem and Lil Wayne.

Jennifer Lopez has changed record companies, and her next album is slated to come out this summer.

• The Detroit News previews the annual Metro Times Blowout music fest in Hamtramck.

• A woman in Florida is suing 50 Cent on the claim that he edited himself into her private sex video and then distributed it. Um, what?

• Funny, awesome or just sad? "American Idol" auditioner General Larry Platt will get paid to perform his phenom "Pants on the Ground" in Las Vegas tomorrow, TMZ says.

AND FINALLY ...

• The Freep reports there's a chance that a deal with the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority could save the Michigan State Fair.
