'Radically different' Oscars?; Justin Timberlake a Stooge?; rubber chicken record?

"The King's Speech"

Organizers of the Academy Awards ceremony, taking place Sunday night, tell The Hollywood Reporter the show will look "radically different" this year. I'll believe it when I see it; they've said that before, and it never seems to be anything other than dull.

In other looks ahead to the Oscars, it turns out that favorite "The King's Speech" didn't get much of a welcome while filming in England. USAToday has a feature on how "The King's Speech" and other nominees speak to the heart. The Washington Post predicts the Best Director winner.

The Oscar broadcast starts 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC.

COMICS

• The Associated Press reports that Dwayne McDuffie, a writer of comics and animated works, has died at age 49. McDuffie, a University of Michigan graduate, was interviewed by Kurt Anthony Krug for an August feature story on AnnArbor.com about U-M grads working in animation.

MUSIC

• The Los Angeles Times has an interesting feature on how the children of alt-country icons like Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Steve Earle and Rodney Crowell are forging their own paths in the music business.

• The PBS music show "Live From the Artist's Den" opens its new season April 1 with Elvis Costello.

• Consequence of Sound reports that Morrissey is planning a new compilation album.

Bat For Lashes has recorded a cover of Depeche Mode's "Strangelove."

• Stereogum has a sample of Sloan's new album.

MOVIES

• If "Ghostbusters 3" gets made, it could costar Ashton Kutcher.

Justin Timberlake could be cast in the Farrelly Brothers' "Three Stooges" movie.

BOOKS

• The New York Times reports on a collection of books recently found to have been once owned by Thomas Jefferson.

COMEDY

• Organizers of the upcoming LaughFest in Grand Rapids hope to set a world record for rubber chicken tossing, the Grand Rapids Press reports.

TELEVISION

• A Muskegon woman is competing on "America's Next Top Model."

• Miss USA Rima Fakih will compete to be a WWE "reality" star.
