You've probably heard by now that Leslie Nielsen, who turned a successful career as a dramatic actor into a resurgence in comedy, had died at age 84.

EW.com has a serviceable overview of his life, but much better reading comes in some of the tributes and sidebars on the web this morning:

• MTV.com has a nice tribute. • The Washington Post looks at Nielsen's legacy of one-liners, and the UK's Telegraph compiles some of the best. • Salon.com focuses on how his comedy career almost didn't happen. • E!Online lists "Five Things We Love About Leslie Nielsen." • Us compiles some of the things stars are saying about him.

Other entertainment news of note online today:

MOVIES

• Although "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" topped the holiday weekend box office, "Tangled" did extremely well in its first week — unlike the other new wide-release movies, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Irvin Kershner, the director best known for "The Empire Strikes Back," has died at age 87.

• The Detroit Free Press did a story rounding up some of the locales that have become favorites of movies shooting in Michigan — including, rather nebulously, the "Ann Arbor area" (most of the others are far more specific).

STAGE

• The long-gestating, clearly troubled stage musical based on Marvel Comics' Spider-Man (and with a score by the guys from U2) finally had its first preview performance last night, and going by the story in the New York Post, it sounds like a complete disaster, with numerous technical issues getting in the way. The New York Times' report noted that stretches of the show went off without a hitch, but even so it still sounds like quite a mess.

MUSIC

• Carrie Underwood's concert scheduled for the Palace of Auburn Hills tonight has been canceled and rescheduled for Dec. 22, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Kid Rock's January concert at Ford Field sold out in 19 minutes, The Detroit News reports.

• I don't quite understand how this is going to work but celebrities including Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga are giving up social networking to benefit charity.

TELEVISION

• The Oakland Press has a feature on a Pontiac man with a small speaking role on tomorrow's episode of "Detroit 1-8-7."

• Barbara Walters has identified her most fascinating people of the year.
