Reality shows wrap up; ArtPrize returning; a theater for Sondheim; and more

Several high-profile reality/competition TV shows wrapped up their seasons last night:

• People.com says the winner of "America's Got Talent" was a surprise, though judge Piers Morgan thinks the decision was right.

• EW.com's recap of the "Big Brother" finale names the winner and runs down all the action.

• "Top Chef" also named a season winner last night, and I saw that EW.com also has a recap of that. But I didn't read it and don't tell me what it says, because I haven't watched the show yet. Thank you.

• The Detroit News looks ahead to ArtPrize, the wildly successful art event begun in Grand Rapids last year, which returns next week.

MUSIC

Sara Bareilles' second album debuted at the top of Billboard's album chart, Rolling Stone reports.

Michael Jackson's mother has sued a concert promoter, claiming the company didn't give him adequate medical care.

Katy Perry tried to embarrass an old high school acquaintaince at a concert, but he seems to be OK with it.

Kanye West said he really did some self-examination after last year's Taylor Swift incident at the MTV Video Music Awards.

• The Old Town BluesFest returns to Lansing this weekend.

• The Chelsea Standard reports that Chelsea High School will host a marching band competition.

MOVIES

• MLive has an interview with Christian Slater, who's now filming the supernatural thriller "Playback" in Grand Rapids.

• There's a new trailer online for "The Tourist," starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.

Nicole Kidman spoke about her upcoming movie "Rabbit Hole" at the Toronto International Film Festival.

THEATER

• Playbill.com reports on the renaming of a Broadway theater to honor composer Stephen Sondheim.

• A musical "King Kong"? It could happen.

TELEVISION

• For the first time, "American Idol" is allowing online auditions — oddly, via MySpace.

• A Portage native will be among the hopefuls in the new season of "The Apprentice."

• Broadcaster Edwin Newman has died at age 91.

FESTIVALS & FAIRS

• The DIY Street Fair happens this weekend in Ferndale, and the Detroit Free Press says one highlight is sure to be the appearance by a band named Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
