David Schwimmer's locally filmed 'Trust' showing in 5 cities; wider release uncertain
Writer Andy Bellin and David Schwimmer at a press conference in Ann Arbor for "Trust" in December, 2009.
On Friday, the locally shot feature film "Trust," directed by "Friends" star David Schwimmer, opened in limited release in five cities: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Oklahoma City and Columbus, Ohio.
But an indieWIRE.com article focused on this past weekend's box office performances notes, "Another Toronto (Film Festival) debut, David Schwimmer’s Clive Owen-Catherine Keener starrer “Trust,” managed even worse numbers (than "Super"), grossing only $60,019 from a 28-screen release. That made for an average of only $2,144 for the film, which is being self-released through producer Millennium Films after distributors failed to bite off its festival screenings."
These numbers certainly don't bode well for a wide national release, and Kay Seaser, film liasion at the Ann Arbor Area Convention Convention and Visitors Bureau, said via e-mail that she recently contacted "Trust"'s publicist, who "replied to me there was nothing special planned for (Ann Arbor), but that the movie would be opening at AMC Theaters in Detroit."
On AMC's site, "Trust" is listed for an April 15 release, yet when you enter a local zip code on that date, no showings come up. So thus far, no Detroit area screenings for the film can be confirmed.
"Trust" was shot in Dexter, Plymouth, Ann Arbor (including U-M's North Campus Research Complex) and Novi near the end of 2009, and stars Clive Owen, Catherine Keener, and Viola Davis. The film tells the story of the fallout in one family when a 14 year old girl is seduced and raped by an online predator.

Please inform yourselves about the movie TRUST. I worked as a department head on this film as a local hire. Reference the following: http://www.trustmovie2011.com/ Roger Ebert gives an overview of the movie's intention and story line: rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110331/

Since tax credits are only for a portion of the money spent, maybe we should be glad for the money spent locally in making the movie.

RE "The film tells the story of the fallout in one family when a 14 year old girl is seduced and raped by an online predator." I do appreciate the effort to bring tragic / dangerous situations to the public's attention, but in terms of choosing a likely subject for a general release movie: isn't this a bit of a downer? I also hope that David Schwimmer finds success. But I hope that for everyone. Personally, his character, Ross Geller on "Friends" was never one of my favorites. BTW, "Youth In Revolt" is out through Netflix, gonna be watching that this evening to see if I recognize Ann Arbor in the car crash scene. Was one of the spectators watching that shoot.
