David Schwimmer's locally shot feature, 'Trust,' earns R rating

By Jenn McKee

According to Moviefone.com's Cinematical blog, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) recently gave "Trust"filmed in and around Ann Arbor in 2009, and directed by former "Friends" star David Schwimmer — an R rating, and Schwimmer is not happy about it.

At a hearing scheduled just before Christmas, the MPAA refused to grant "Trust" a PG-13 rating, but Schwimmer has reportedly vowed not to change the film, regardless of the outcome of an appeal.

The film stars Clive Owen and Catherine Keener, and tells the story of a family's (and particularly a father's) emotional unraveling after an online predator seduces and rapes the family's 14-year-old daughter.

According to Cinematical, the film's use of adult language, as well as its sexual situations, may be the primary factors in the MPAA's decision. But Schwimmer had hoped teens younger than 17 (the age required by the 'R' rating) could see the film and absorb its cautionary message about online interactions.

Stay tuned for updates, and in the interim, check out the film's trailer:

The movie's Internet Movie DataBase page does not yet list a release date.
