Today
Manchester Ice Cream Social. 5-8 p.m. St. Mary's Church of Manchester, 210 W. Main St., Manchester. Come to the St. Mary Manchester annual “Ice Cream Social," a tradition since 1892, on the front lawn of the church (the “Village Green”). Enjoy a great summer meal with all the traditional summer dishes (from barbecue and kielbasa to German potato salad and fresh veggies and more) plus an ice cream and homemade dessert assortment. In addition, there is a "Country Store" with home-baked and canned items, fresh produce, kid’s games and activities, and live music. Pittsfield Township Farmers Market. 2-7 p.m. every Thursday June 13 through Oct. 10. Pittsfield Township Administration Building, 6201 W. Michigan Ave., Pittsfield Township. Pittsfield Township will begin hosting a Farmers Market at the Administration Building at the corner of Michigan and Platt. Pittsfield is fully supportive of a Michigan-based product Farmers Market with a focus on providing fresh produce and vegetables, meats, cheeses, eggs, hams, salsas, and bread products from local area farmers. 16th Annual Summer Beer Festival. 5-9 p.m. Friday and 1-6 p.m. Saturday. Riverside Park, downtown Ypsilanti. The Summer Beer Festival features more than 600 different beers from more than 65 Michigan craft breweries. Food will be available for purchase inside the festival, and guests will enjoy live music from a variety of Michigan bands. The oldest of the Michigan Brewers Guild's four annual festivals, the Summer Beer Festival takes place rain or shine in the lovely outdoor setting of Ypsilanti's Riverside Park in historic Depot Town. The Perfect Egg with Mark Hodesh. 8:30-10 a.m.. Downtown Home & Garden, 210 S. Ashley St., Ann Arbor. Fleetwood Diner founder and Downtown Home and Garden owner, Mark Hodesh will teach how to cook a perfect egg: over-easy, straight up, scrambled, poached, and soft-boiled, all performed on his beloved 1935 Magic Chef stove right here at the store. German Park Picnic 2013. Admission gate open 4-9 p.m.; park closes at 11 p.m. German Park Recreation Club, 5549 Pontiac Trail, Ann Arbor. Public picnics are held the last Saturday of June, July and August. Authentic German dinners and traditional fare are served. A dance band begins at 4 p.m., with performances by the German Park Dancers. Please: picnic baskets, coolers, food or beverages may not be brought into the park. No pets are allowed. There is a designated smoking area. Summer is a great time to entertain; try these Italian delights at your next gathering. Recipes: Crostini with mascarpone and brie cheeses, topped with a slice of prosciutto; Bruschetta al pesto di carcio: artichoke hearts are sauteed with parsley and olives, then made into a pesto sauce and spread on garlic rubbed bruschetta; Zucchini Fritters fried to a golden crispness; Crostini topped with sauteed wild mushrooms and Parmesan cheese. Milan Senior Nutrition Program. 11:45 a.m. Milan Senior & Community Activity Center, 45 Neckel Court, Milan. In partnership with the Washtenaw County Senior Nutrition Program, they offer a nutritionally balanced meal three afternoons a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There is a suggested donation of $2.50 for anyone who is 60 years or older and a fee of $5 for anyone under the age of 60. They do ask for 48 hour advanced reservations. Call or stop by the office.

Cobblestone Farm Market Day 2013. 4-7 p.m. Cobblestone Farm Center, 2781 Packard St., Ann Arbor. Every Tuesday May 21 through Nov. 5, a farmers market sprouts up on the lawn of Historic Cobblestone Farm in Southeast Ann Arbor. Rustic Italian Cooking: Pork with Francesca Giarraffa - Cooking with Class. 5:30-8:30 p.m. Ann Arbor Whole Foods, 3135 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor, in the Cooking and Lifestyles Classroom. In this course a complete rustic Italian meal is prepared featuring an entree, side dishes and dessert. The course is led by an instructor born into the Italian cooking tradition, who apprenticed at a specialty restaurant in Naples, Italy. Menu: grilled, marinated pork tenderloin medallions (topped with a dijon mustard and walnut sauce); roasted potato wedges (with fresh rosemary, onions and pancetta); spinach and white bean salad (tossed in a lemon vinaigrette); and strawberry sorbet. The Cattle Drive to Chicago. 7-10 p.m. Zingerman’s Roadhouse, 2501 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor. Roadhouse chef Alex Young hosts a dinner featuring barbecue and other foods that would be found along the path of 19th-century cattle drives from Texas to Chicago. $50 - includes beer pairings. Wednesday Wine Tasting. 6 p.m. Paesano's Italian Restaurant, 3411 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor. This informal wine tasting allows patrons to sample five up and coming wines from Italy.
