Today is National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day! Says who? I dunno, probably Big Pastrami—they are a powerful lobby in D.C.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a place to celebrate, you may want to check out the just-opened sixth location of beloved Detroit-based chain Bread Basket Deli at 4003 Carpenter Rd. in Ypsilanti. You can order a triple decker pastrami sandwich (and many other things), and you can even do so online.

Enjoy your holiday!

In general I am a believer in not saying anything unless you have something nice to say, but...my one meal at the Bread Basket Deli was among my all time most disappointing meals of all time. I lived in New York City until I as 30. I miss New York deli foods, especially pastrami. When I saw that the Bread Basket had opened in my neighborhood, I was all excited. I took my girlfriend there on a Saturday. The pastrami was awful, tasteless and beyond greasy. We not only couldn't finish our sandwiches, we ended up getting a second dinner elsewhere. I would have complained, but the place was so poorly run that there was no one available to talk to, everyone was in the back. Given that they are only a few miles from Zingermans, which offers superb deli sandwiches and is well run, I can't see them staying in business long.
