Depot Town bars to host drunken Santas during first annual Pub Crawl
The Depot Town Merchant’s Association will hold the first annual Drunken Santa Pub Crawl through Depot Town on Friday, Dec. 23.
The bar hopping gets underway at 7:30 p.m. at the Corner Brewery and takes participants on a tour through all of Depot Town’s watering holes.
Drunken Santas can enjoy drink specials at each stop along the path, which goes from the Corner Brewery to Powell’s Pub, Aubree’s, Sidetrack, Café Ollie and concludes at Woodruff’s. Most of the vendors will list some type of happy hour special for those on the hour. For example, Café Ollie will offer discounts on all Michigan beers and wines.
The drunken Santas will spend about 45 minutes at each bar and Woodrufff’s will feature live music from Err , Sharky and the Habit and Gnome Village.
Drunken Santa pub crawls have become popular in larger cities, and Merchant's Association press czar Mark Teachout said the businesses thought it would be an excellent way to enjoy the holidays while promoting the area.
But there's one catch: You have to dress like Santa to join the fun.
“It seems like a lot of people are leaving to go out of town for the holidays, and this is a last minute time to hang out and go have a drink, so we thought it would be cool to hit all the local places, have fun and give everyone a little business,” he said.

Yes! this sounds great. one thing, how much like Santa does one have to dress? i mean can i half-ass it with a Santa hat or are we talking fat suit and white beard, reindeer and the whole bit? and oh yeah, i'm expecting Teachout to be in full costume.

Hey, if this is supporting LOCAL businesses and LOCAL jobs, I'm for it. Make sure to designate a driver (code name: Rudolph) or take a taxi and keep it in control.

I don't know if you realize this, but people get drunk in bars the other 364 days of the year too. (365 in leap year!) Bars want people to get drunk all the time. Not just for special events.

Aww. Have your delicate sensibilities been offended? Mine too. I hate it when people try to stop others from having fun because they don't like the activity. Grow up.

Anything that promotes drinking to excess is in very poor taste. Let's hope no one gets killed when one of these drunks gets behind the wheel of an automobile.

I hope the Association will have a bevy of taxis curbside to help all of the Santas who over-imbibe get home safely. All the holiday "cheer" in the world won't be enough if one person dies because a Drunken Santa gets behind the wheel.

I have to agree with 'WalkingJoe' it is in poor taste. Probably works well with the level of humor for 20 year olds; but a lot of publicity to the general public will leave a poor image.

It may be popular but I think it's in poor taste.
