Drink local, and drink (environmentally) responsibly

By Jessica Webster

The green food blog Michigan Mugs and Meals recently posted the third in its series on Michigan beer. The post urges readers to not just to consider the "buy local" aspect of drinking Michigan beers, but also the environmental impact of their beer choices.

Things to consider when choosing a beer:

1. How close is the brew pub? Walking or biking distance is best, but if you have to drive, try to stick as close to home as possible. 2. How far does the beer have to travel to get to you? Beer brewed on site is best, eliminating transportation costs. 3. What kind of container is the beer served in? Draught beers are best, as there is no disposable container to throw away or recycle.
