'Dubbel' your pleasure of new Belgium brew at Ypsilanti's Corner Brewery
Tonight was the release of the Phat Abbot Belgian Dubbel at the Corner Brewery. Release parties are a major perk of Mug Club membership (#743, represent!). You have two hours to drink and eat to your heart's content. So that's what we did tonight!
The Dubbel is excellent...better than last year's batch, IMHO (and last year's batch was pretty darn good!). It is made with Belgian candy sugar, which lends to its sweet flavor.
The beer has hints of dark fruits (you'll know what I mean when you drink it) and toffee and is VERY easy drinking. Do not let this beer fool you. It is 8.2%, but you wouldn't realize it (at least *I* wouldn't realize it!).
During his speech, Matt Greff said the Dubbel ferments out "dry" & at 78 degrees (higher than other beers), which boosts the alcohol without making the beer malty. It becomes sweet, but not "sticky sweet".
The beer was excellent and, as I said before, very easy drinking.
It's an excellent addition to the winter line up, and, as Matt & Rene
said, it's perfect for the weather outside.
The only thing that would be more perfect is if we had a Snow Day tomorrow and I got to spend all day inside, drinking the Dubbel!
