Final results in the vote for the best burger in Washtenaw County

By Jessica Webster

A2_BestBurger.jpg
6,776 votes were cast for 58 burger restaurants in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and the surrounding areas. After six days of voting, the poll is closed, the votes are tallied, and Ypsilanti seems to reign supreme as the burger capital of Washtenaw County.

Ypsilanti's Sidetrack Bar & Grill took an early lead over Ann Arbor favorite Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger in the vote and managed to hold that lead until the very end, winning with a respectable 1,277 votes cast. Blimpy Burger held on to a solid second-place finish with 938 votes.

The big surprise in this contest was the come-from-behind third-place finish for Ypsilanti's Wurst Bar. Until Tuesday afternoon, Casey's Tavern was enjoying a comfortable third-place perch, but Wurst Bar fans gave the restaurant a solid push on Tuesday and Wednesday that carried them across the finish line.

Now that we've determined the AnnArbor.com readers' choices for the best burgers in the area, we'll see how they stack up against the competition from across the state. MLive statewide entertainment reporter John Gonzalez will be stopping in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti to sample some of our best burgers next Wednesday afternoon as he conducts his search for Michigan's Best Burger.

Red Hawk makes an excellent burger! I'm surprised Jolly Pumpkin wasn't higher on the list. That burger kills.

Agreed. JP would be my #1, but I understand that the ingredients (with a somewhat stronger cheese) are a bit different than a lot of standard burgers and might not appeal to everyone.

I still think the real test is a regular burger.. go to each place and get the same burger.. then see who's is the best.

COMPLETELY AGREE. That's what we always do for our site, michiganburgerboys.com. And, I feel that Mlive has to do the same thing for this contest.

I have been going to the Sidetrack for decades and ALWAYS order their burgers. They are the best. It is nice to see them being acknowledged. I live on the westside of Ann Arbor and gladly make the drive there!

"Receiving less than 75 votes" should be "receiving fewer than 75 votes"....

Sidetracks sounds about right, but I haven't been to most of these restaurants, so I can't compare. I need to get to Red Hawk sometime. I'm not sure why Bagger Dave's, Five Guys, Dairy Queen, or any other chain would be allowed or voted on. Is McDonald's not good enough?

Bagger Dave's may be a chain burger joint, but the food there is not like chain restaurants. Plus all burgers are customizable and they always have a great selection of rotating craft brews!

Voting was not limited to snobs. Seems the hoi polloi rode rampant in the poll. Have we lost all standards at aa.com? By the way, IMHO Five Guys makes a better burger than Red Hawk.

We've had many to most on the polling list, and although it may not be the popular choice, Roy's BBQ and Burgers may indeed have the best burger around. We say this comfortably and without a doubt. We'd like to invite you all down to Milan. Sit at the counter and order a 1/2 pounder with grilled onions and cheese. You'll see what we mean. As for Blimpy and Sidetrack - no complaints. Roy's is a contender though - believe it. And, we'll have to hit the Wurst Bar very soon! See you all on the Burger Trail!

The Little Ones at Roys are outstanding. They're the best kept secret. What you get from Dave's griddle is a fantastic brown crust on your burger.

It would be interesting to display the restaurant inspection ratings next to the best burger ratings. I wonder how much good or bad ratings impact where people eat and what they consider great food. Seriously. I know I remember those ratings!!

I am always interested in how inspections of eateries affect the readers. I am not sure why that bothers you, Brian. In the old days, folks had a much shorter life span. I think we all know that. And I think most of us want to eat food prepared in a clean environment. My point is, do we remember the ratings and do the findings affect where we eat?

brian

If your worried about it don't eat there. Go home and cook yourself. Could you imagine living back in the twenties when there were no food inspections, oh my how did they survive.

Sidetrack doesn't have great inspection ratings, but people may not care or know.
