Sushi for students: Miki Campus brings the flavors of downtown's Miki to South U.

Miki Japanese Restaurant has been a mainstay of downtown Ann Arbor for many years, and now Miki Campus is bringing the same fresh, quality cuisine to denizens of the South University area.

Opened approximately two months ago, Miki Campus sports a different atmosphere (Michigan football vs. Japanese art) and menu (more modest, less expensive) than its downtown parent. But for students or anyone else on that end of town craving something different from pub grub, it features a full sushi bar as well as other quintessential Japanese staples such as sashimi, tempura, and teriyaki.

To help keep things easy on the typical student budget, Miki Campus is offering coupons to those who become fans on its Facebook page (current deal: 15% off any dine-in purchase of $30 or more). A frequent diner card is also available, with the clever conceit of a 5 x 5 bingo card: Complete a row of entrées in any direction and order your next entrée (on the card) for free.

Sadly, if you want to pair a nice beer (Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale would be lovely) or wine with your meal, or enjoy a postmeal sake, you’re out of luck. But I suppose if you’re that fancy, you have the wherewithal to visit the downtown Miki, don’t you?

Miki Campus, 1235 South University, is open Monday through Thursday 11:30am to 10pm, Friday 11:30am to 10:30pm, Saturday noon to 10:30pm, and Sunday noon to 10pm.
