This is a great drink developed by my daughter, Greta, who knows her stuff. To assist with tuition payments at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she bartended in downtown Chicago. I love inventing recipes for food — she loves inventing recipes for drinks.

Her bartending days are behind her, but she hasn't lost her knack. I put her to work coming up with a "spirited" recipe for the season.

Ingredients

2 parts vodka
1 part unsweetened cranberry juice
3 parts sweetened cranberry juice
1 part Grand Marnier
Sugar, optional
Champagne
Orange zest

Directions

1. Combine the vodka, cranberry juices, Grand Marnier in a small pitcher and mix well. Add sugar to taste, if desired.
2.Add champagne to taste. Pour into martini glasses or champagne flutes. Garnish each glass with orange zest and serve.
