Ray's Red Hots replaces Red Hot Lovers; waffle fry lovers rejoice

By Edward Vielmetti

A report is in from waffle fry lover Brian Kerr that Ray's Red Hots has opened in the former Red Hot Lovers space at 629 E. University Ave. near the University of Michigan's central campus in Ann Arbor.

We'll update this story after we digest first hand reports.

Made our first trip to the reimagined Red Hot Lovers today. Menu has been simplified but my old favorite the Serious Dog (now called a slaw dog) was there and every bit as good. One of the owners of RHL is running Ray's which explains the consistency. The kitchen has been redesigned to be more open, the interior is brighter with a red and white theme throughout. Soda has been moved to a fountain drink station in the roomier customer area. Class rock and jam band still play from the tape deck now stored under the counter. The waffle fries remain a little pale as previously mentioned, but its wonderful to have our old tube stack mecca back.

Walking around this weekend I noticed this, too. I'll report back about the veg-friendly fare. Here's hoping the tofu dog is still on the menu.
