The Bar at 327 Braun Court, known for a creative craft cocktail menu and quirky atmosphere (AnnArbor.com contributor Rich Retyi calls it "a place that feels like the living room of the coolest person you’ve ever known"), has rolled out a new cocktail menu this week.

Sporting cocktails with names like "Half A Yard Sale" (Cava, Rebel Yell Bourbon, Espolon Reposado Tequila, lime juice and simple syrup) and "Morning Glory Fizz" (Dewar's White Label Scotch, Pernod, raw egg white, lemon juice and simple syrup), it's clear that a lot of fun was had making this menu.

"We kind of look at it as a mixtape," explained Eric Farrell, one of the bar's co-owners. "My bartender Luke calls it that. It's a mixtape of what we're drinking ourselves, and what we've been playing around with at the bar."

And sometimes the inspiration comes from the bar's patrons.

"The Half A Yard Sale. That one came from a regular," said Farrell. "He gave us a list of ingredients and dared us to make a cocktail from it."

In addition to the rotating creative cocktail list, The Bar at 327 Braun Court has a selection of classic favorites.

"The White Russian usually sticks around, and we're starting a perennial cocktail menu, with drinks like the gin and tonic and the Americano."

The Bar At 327 Braun Court is located just about where you'd expect to find it: at 327 Braun Court in Ann Arbor's Kerrytown neighborhood. The bar is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday-Friday and 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays.

My husband and I discovered The Bar a few weekends ago and absolutely loved the people, the atmosphere, and the beer (we aren't much for cocktails...); we felt transported. It's one of Ann Arbor's best kept secrets. :)

What's the best cocktail here? I've still never been, but want to check it out. It seems like they've come a long and garnered a loyal following since I wrote about them opening in 2011.

Think!

Lizzy - you wrote about them opening but have never been there? How did you write an article about a place you never visited? I am perplexed.

It doesn't sound very good, but I tried a similar(ish) cocktail at the Ravens Club and it was actually tasty! I'm seeing egg whites on many cocktail menus lately. Still need to check this place out!

I really like that place. Their unstirred white Russian has become a favorite of mine.

My answer isn't one of the available choices. I've tried many of the new cocktails, but I find that most of them are straining to be clever or different. Many are way too sweet and/or lack balance. I must have a dozen cocktail recipe books, and keep trying ones that look like they might be interesting, and I'm always disappointed. The old classics with staying power suit me - manhattan (especially with rye, and don't forget the bitters!), gin martini, margarita, gin and tonic, highball, negroni. I'm probably forgetting a few others, but I can be happy with one these (or maybe two) for just about any occasion. One new cocktail that is an exception for me is the cosmopolitan. A little too sweet for me, but it is balanced in the classic cocktail way. And just because something is served in a martini glass doesn't make it a martini!

My drink of choice is a negroni. Always on ice. Sometimes I make it in a tall glass and top it off with some soda water. I'll occasionally order a G-g-ginger at Grange or Ramos Gin Fizz at The Roadhouse.
