Hot on the heels of the statewide Michigan Coney Dog Project, John Gonzalez—entertainment reporter at MLive, our statewide partner website — has decided that it's time to launch the search for the best barbecue in Michigan.

Whether you spell it BBQ, barbeque or barbecue, whether you're a griller or a smoker, chances are you have an opinion on the restaurant that does it best in Washtenaw County.

Me? I've been known to frequent Satchel's BBQ on Washtenaw. I'm a big fan of Zingerman's Roadhouse and their Thursday Blue Plate BBQ special, and I'm dying to make it out to the new Red Rock Downtown Barbecue in Ypsilanti. Friends swear it will be my new favorite.
