Hail, hail the Yellow Room Gang's at the library, and Wild Swan Theater puts on a spirited 'Christmas Carol'

LECTURE

The Penny Stamps Speaker Series continues at the Michigan Theater. 5:10 p.m. Jim Hubbard will present "United in Anger: A History of ACT UP." A feature-length documentary that combines archival footage with insightful interviews to explore ACT UP (the AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power) from a grassroots perspective. The film shows the planning and execution of major actions that forced the U.S. government and mainstream media to deal with the AIDS crisis. Free. 603 E. Liberty St., Ann Arbor. 734-668-8397.

Catch the Yellow Room Gang in concert at the Ann Arbor District Library main branch. 7-8 p.m. The Gang includes includes acclaimed local musicians David Barrett, Jim Bizer, Annie Capps, Kitty Donohoe, Michael Hough, Jan Krist, David Tamulevich and Matt Watroba. What began as a casual meeting in the brilliant yellow living room of David Tamulevich’s Ann Arbor home has evolved into a musical ‘super group.’ Free. 343 S. Fifth Ave., Ann Arbor.

The Zell Visiting Writers Series will present Amitav Ghosh, the Zell Distinguished International Writer in Residence, at the University of Michigan Museum of Art. 5:10 p.m. Ghosh is the author of "The Circle of Reason," "The Shadow Lines," "In An Antique Land," and most recently, "River of Smoke," which is the second volume of a projected series of novels,The Ibis Trilogy. The Wild Swan Theater will present "A Christmas Carol" at Towsley Auditorium on the WCC campus. Today and Friday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; Sunday at 2 and 4 p.m. We all know—and at times are—a Scrooge. This spirited tale reminds us to loosen up or die alone. $15 for adults, $10 for youth and seniors.
