Huron Players and Pioneer Theatre Guild offer theater productions this weekend

By Jenn McKee

Both Huron High School and Pioneer High School offer theater productions this weekend.

The Huron Players will premiere its take on Oscar Wilde's classic comedy, "The Importance of Being Earnest," at Huron High School, 2727 Fuller Rd. The show tells the tangled story of two male friends who assume made-up identities in order to woo a love interest, only to have the deception lead to confusion and hilarity.

Showtimes are 7:30 on Friday-Saturday, April 30-May 8, and tickets are $8 ($6 for students and seniors). For ticket reservations, call 734-994-2095.

Pioneer High School, meanwhile, continues its run of the stage musical adaptation of "Footloose," with a book by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, lyrics by Dean Pitchford and Kenny Loggins, and music by Tom Snow. U-M musical theater senior Mary Michael Patterson directs this production.

Based on the 1984 hit film, "Footloose" tells the story of a rambunctious teenage boy who moves to a small, conservative Texas town, where dancing is forbidden, and sparks a young people's cultural revolt.

Remaining showtimes are Friday and Saturday, April 30-May 1, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 2 at 2 p.m. All performances take place in PHS's Schreiber Auditorium, at 601 West Stadium Boulevard, and tickets at the door are $9 (students, seniors 65 and older, and PHS Staff) and $12 (with assigned, advance seating available via ShowTix4U). Tickets at the door may be paid for with cash or check. For more info, check out the Pioneer Theatre Guild website. Jenn McKee is the entertainment digital journalist for AnnArbor.com.
