Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney bring their Jill & Julia Show to The Ark on Friday

By Roger LeLievre

If you like music mixed with politics, personal stories, social commentary and a definite sense of humor, then The Ark folks might have had you in mind when booking Friday night’s Jill and Julia Show.

Jill is acoustic folk guitarist / singer-songwriter Jill Sobule, and Julia is her pal Julia Sweeney.

Sobule, who had a big hit with “I Kissed A Girl” in 1995, is already familiar locally through her past appearances. Sweeney played the gender-ambiguous character Pat on “Saturday Night Live” in the 1990s, and is known for her monologues about surviving cancer and atheism. She’s also a panelist on the NPR show “Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me!” and has a new book out, "If It’s Not One Thing, It's Your Mother."

Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney are at The Ark, 316 S. Main St., at 8 p.m. Friday, July 5. Tickets are $20. Details at www.theark.org or 734-761-1451.
