The Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti music community never seems to hesitate to come together in multi-performer benefit concerts for a range of noble causes.

Tuesday night at The Ark features a particularly impressive lineup of regional roots-music talent in a special Veterans For Peace John Lennon Birthday Concert. All proceeds go toward the local chapter of Veterans For Peace's Peace Scholarship Fund, which, according to The Ark, "assists Michigan college students, with a preference to veterans, studying any collegiate level course aimed at conflict resolution or peace studies. As individuals who have experienced war, members of the local Veterans For Peace Chapter feel strongly that one of the best ways to stop future armed conflicts is to help promote peacemaking through education."

The occasion of the concert is the birthday of the late John Lennon, who was of course active in peace issues as well as music. The group's scholarship fund began in 2008 with a donation from Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a half-hour earlier than most weekday Ark shows. Doors open at 7:00. Tickets, at $15, are available from The Ark box office (with no service charge); Michigan Union Ticket Office, 530 S. State St.; Herb David Guitar Studio, 302 E. Liberty St.; or online from the Michigan Union Ticket Office.

For more information on the concert, the organization or the scholarship fund, see the group's website.
