Linda Yohn, - popular morning host and longtime music director at WEMU (89.1-FM), Eastern Michigan University’s public-radio station - will be absent from the station for a while to deal with a medical issue.

In an open letter addressed to “WEMU family,” Yohn writes that she needs surgery to remove a tumor in her lung and expects to be out for at least two months.

Wendy Wright will be the primary host of the morning show in Yohn’s absence. Michael Jewett will act as music director until Yohn’s return.

“I thank everyone at WEMU and Eastern Michigan University for being so understanding and supportive of me through this rough patch,” Yohn wrote. “Count on this: I will be back! I love serving you, the community and the professional music community. Already I have a new and different appreciation for life on this planet. I look forward to being back and to sharing my new knowledge with you.”

Well-wishes may be posted to WEMU's Facebook page or sent to the station at P.O. Box 980350, Ypsilanti, MI 48198-0350. The station plans to post updates on Yohn’s recovery on its web site, wemu.org.
