Michigan stand-up comic Mike Bobbitt is a self-professed nerd. And that's OK because so are you. At least in one way or another. Maybe it's a classic cars thing or you're a movie buff or a hardcore foodie or you loved (and still love) Star Wars (the original three, mind you): it doesn't have to wear a wizard's hat for it to be a dorky.

Bobbitt is a Star Wars nut. On stage, he'll tell you about his uniquely placed ewok tattoo that, when the mood's right, turns into a wookiee. He'll tell you about his World of Warcraft guild and his fears about being a nerdy dad. He'll tell you how he was even invited out to perform at the 501st Stormtrooper Legion's first Trooperfest convention in Las Vegas.

But don't think his jokes are only for the nerdiest, the dork-elite. Bobbitt's comedy taps into the dorky undercurrent that has been developing in American culture for the past thirty odd years that's been cropping up more and more often in the mainstream. It taps into the everyday life and challenges of being a modern American male, losing weight and the unexpected surprises of going from single life to being a married man.

This Thursday, Bobbitt's bringing his comedy back to Ann Arbor for the CD release party of his newest comedy album at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase in downtown Ann Arbor.

Originally from Troy, Bobbitt's been performing stand-up around the country for years (he performed his 1,400th show back in August in Livonia). Not content just to tour the lower 48 and make people laugh from the stage, he's been writing a dedicated comedy blog and started hosted regular comedy podcasts featuring other up and coming stand-up comedians from the Ann Arbor-Detroit area (and believe me, there are quite a few).

He released his first comedy CD, "Mickey Pooh," back in 2008, which is currently available on iTunes. He just finished filming the pilot to a comedy series he wrote with his wife called "Deadpan" with other local comics and filmmakers, and it's currently making the rounds on the festival circuit. His new CD is entitled "Full Frontal Nerdity" and it's a sign that Bobbitt is embracing wholeheartedly his dorky, action-figure-collecting soul.

The release party for Mike Bobbitt's new CD is set to feature a full-on local comedy line-up. Bobbitt will be headlining with special guests that include area talents Jeff Conolly, Amy Probst, Allyson Hood and Mike O'Keefe. According to Bobbitt's website, both O'Keefe and Hood make brief cameos on the CD. Bobbitt is giving away passes to the release on his website for free, though he does recommend you call ahead of time to reserve a seat.

The release party for Mike Bobbitt's "Full Frontal Nerdity" is going to be held at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase on 314 E. Liberty in downtown Ann Arbor this Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
