Logan Law, Ripple 3ffect, Park Boiz and DJ Pigpen at The Blind Pig
I stopped into The Blind Pig yesterday, January 24, to catch a few DJ sets before heading home for the night.
I walked in towards the end of the first set. The DJ was a guy named Logan Law. The first thing I noticed was his energy while performing. Spinning a style called moombahton, which is electronic beats over latin rhythms, Logan Law bounced to the beat while his long hair flew all over the place. He reminded me of a mini Bassnectar. He is heavily influence by Nadastron, Dillon Francis, Sabbo, Daft Punk, JWLS and Le Doom.
"I started as a drummer at age 10," said Law. "Switching over to DJ'ing wasn't too much of a task since I already knew how to follow beats."
Hailing from Clarkston, Law would like to "take this as far as it can go. As long as I'm having fun, I'll still be doing it."

The next set was a DJ duo named Ripple 3ffect. Ripple 3ffect is composed of Nicholas Rowe, originally from Jamaica, as well as Ian Berke, an Ann Arbor native and Huron High School grad.
The duo spins deep house. Deep house is known for the use of vocals as well as more complex chord progressions than the other sub genres of house music.
Ripple 3ffect has been together since the summer of 2011. Both Rowe and Berke are producers as well.
When I asked about their goals, they both responded with the idea of continuing to create new music as well as becoming successful traveling DJ's. "The way we're gonna do that is by putting out mixes that are smooth, clean and our own style," said Berke. "We listen to everything, so we're influenced by everything. I have a bunch of friends who don't like electronic, but they can still enjoy what we play because our taste incorporates a little bit of everything."

The third set was a DJ trio by the name of Park Boiz. The group is composed of Kyle Letourneou, Matt Cauzillo and Dakota Budde. Park Boiz is managed by Rob Mengel. The trio has been together for about one year.
Originally from Novi, Park Boiz currently plays gigs both here in Ann Arbor at some of the fraternities as well as in Mount Pleasant, MI, at Central Michigan University.
"Our biggest focus right now is switching from live DJ'ing to producing," said Letourneou. "Production is where you get fans, having something unique."
Park Boiz are Influenced by a range of artists including but not exclusive to Diplo, Avicii, Swizz Beats, Luminox, Flosstradamus, Bro Safari, Daft Punk and DeadMau5. "I try to be really versatile," said Cauzillo. "I like to start with house, see how they're feeling, pick it up with dubstep or trap."

The final set was by DJ PigPen. Originally Ron Sulewski, he is based out of Royal Oak, MI and has been DJ'ing for close to 4 years. His influences range from early Detroit techno to modern house and electro house as well as everything in between.
"I go through 30 or 40 blogs per day, looking for the gem or two," said Sulewski.
Represented by Michigan Made Music, Sulewski aims to "hopefully tour and DJ. Even when it's not that big, you can still see people getting down."
He is currently focused on developing as a DJ and producer. "Right now, [I'm working on] having a clean, polished sound that's unique and different in it's own right."
