The University Musical Society and the Michigan Theater (603 East Liberty Street) have joined forces to present the second of 3 high definition screenings of live theater performances by the National Theatre in London: Mark Ravenhill's adaptation of Terry Pratchett's novel "Nation," which will play on the Michigan's screen on Sunday, February 7 at 5 p.m. (U.S. screenings are delayed to accommodate the time difference.)

In addition to the show, the broadcasts also feature behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the actors.

The show, suitable for ages 10 and up, is set in a parallel world in 1860 and tells the story of 2 teenagers from different sides of the globe who are thrown together by a tsunami.

Mau is returning to his South Pacific Island tribe after a rites of passage ritual, and Daphne is traveling from her aristocratic life in Victorian England to meet her father, governor of the South Seas. Despite not speaking the same language and now finding themselves alone in the world, the two have to learn to survive and face the challenges of rebuilding Mau's nation. But as more survivors gather, they're all threatened by invading Raiders.

Tickets for the broadcast are $22 ($18 for UMS subscribers and donors or Michigan Theater members, $12 for students) and may be ordered by calling 800-221-1229, visiting the Michigan League Ticket Office, or going to the UMS web site.
