Looking Glass appears at Green Wood Coffee House tonight
The Green Wood Coffee House series is normally known for showcasing acoustic-folk and other roots-music artists. But tonight, Green Wood hosts a pop-music blast from the past for baby boomers - the band Looking Glass, which notched one of the biggest hits of 1972 with "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)."
That song was the first single from their Epic records debut album, and it whooshed to No. 1 on the Billboard chart. The group had actually gotten its break earlier, when record mogul Clive Davis caught their act at the Whiskey A Go-Go in Los Angeles. In 1973, the band's second big single, "Jimmy Loves Maryann," rose to No. 28 on the charts.

Frotman Elliot Lurie later went on to a career in supervising movie soundtracks, working on films like “Perfect,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Last of the Mohicans,” and “Stuart Little.” In 2003 the group reunited to do some live shows. The current lineup also includes Detroit bassist Eric Mackey and session drummer Craig Williams, who has done a fair amount of work in Detroit studios. This year marks the group's 40th anniversary - so, the band has been touring the country this year to celebrate.
