Motown legend Martha Reeves and the Vandellas performed for free in downtown Ann Arbor on Thursday, the first concert of this year's Sonic Lunch series.

Photographer Melanie Maxwell captured these images. The Bank of Ann Arbor-sponsored event brings free music to downtown on Thursdays at lunchtime during the summer season. Most concerts take place at Liberty Plaza, but next week features a special show by Darren Criss at the Michigan Theater. Watch for an interview with Criss Friday on AnnArbor.com.

What a wonderful concert! I loved when she brought the 4th graders from Eberwhite up on stage with her during Jimmy Mack. The band was tight, and Martha is a fantastic entertainer. Thanks to Sonic Lunch, Matt Altruda and Bank of Ann Arbor for this lovely kickoff to the summer season!!
