Mayer Hawthorne's Thursday Sonic Lunch performance moved to Michigan Theater
Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect that Michigan Theater has confirmed the Mayer Hawthorne show will be held there.
Neo-soul singer/songwriter Mayer Hawthorne’s Thursday Sonic Lunch performance is moved to Michigan Theater from Liberty Plaza because of inclement weather.
Michigan Theater confirmed the move with a post on its Facebook page after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Thursday forecasts show a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms and a high of 93 degrees.
Liberty Street was originally scheduled to be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday because of the concert, but Bank of Ann Arbor marketing assistant Samantha West confirmed the street will be open for traffic.
Michigan Theater is at 603 E. Liberty St.
West said the decision to change venues was made Wednesday afternoon and the bank is in the process of notifying individuals through its various social media sites.
West said Michigan Theater has a capacity of about 1,700 and officials are confident the theater will be able to hold all concertgoers.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and West advised individuals to arrive early to ensure seating.
Hawthorne is Ann Arbor native and a graduate of Huron High School and the University of Michigan. He’s scheduled to perform with his band The County from noon to 1:30 p.m. The band Lightning Love will play at 11:30 a.m.
Sonic Lunch is an outdoor summer concert series hosted by Bank of Ann Arbor.
