Cast members strike a disco pose in "Menopause the Musical."

Just announced: the Off-Broadway hit show “Menopause The Musical” plays at at the Michigan Theater for two days only, January 26 & 27, at 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at $40-$50 (with group discounts available) and are on sale now at 800-745-3000 or the Ticketmaster web site.

Set in a department store, four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale. The all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer “The Silent Passage,” but rather a stage in every woman’s life that’s perfectly normal.

“Menopause The Musical” is the work of writer/producer Jeanie Linders. The 90-minute show includes parodies of ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s classic songs and has been performed in over 250 cities and 14 countries.

  • There are aspects of our childhoods that we carry with us when we get older, and one of these for me has been the children’s book. It is children’s literature that often becomes our first foray into suspended belief and imagined landscapes. It is when we first question what it means to see the world and see how life can change suddenly at night.
