Mittenfest IV concluded Sunday after four nights at Ypsilanti’s Elbow Room, and its founder, Brandon Zwagerman, called this year’s event the best yet.

“It was a total blast,” he said. “This was the biggest year ever.”

The long weekend featuring 40 bands and DJs pulled in over $11,000, which will benefit the literacy group 826michigan. Elbow Room owner Andy Garris estimated 1000 people attended the shows and said they sold out every night.

Each evening featured 10 Michigan-connected bands and artists, some new and some established, including Fred Thomas, Lightning Love, Friendly Foes and White Pines.

In its fourth year, the annual benefit has steadily grown and evolved from a small one-day affair to an anticipated gathering and showcase of Michigan musicians.
