NEA awards grants to three Ann Arbor groups
The National Endowment for the Arts has announced a new batch of grants, including 18 grants worth a total of $139,000 to 18 groups in Michigan. Three of the smaller grants went to organizations based in Ann Arbor: the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival and Kerrytown Concert House.
As detailed on the NEA website:
• The Ann Arbor Summer Festival won a $25,000 grant: "To support the Diversity Initiative, a series of multidisciplinary arts performances and related activities at the 2011 Ann Arbor Summer Festival. A diverse group of local, national, and international artists will perform and participate in workshops, master classes, and discussions."• The Ann Arbor Film Festival won $15,000: "To support the 49th Ann Arbor Film Festival. At the forthcoming festival, many genres will be presented including documentaries, animated films, cinéma vérité, narrative, and personal story cinema."
• Kerrytown Concert House won $12,500: "To support Edgefest 2011: Blending in/Blending Out. National and international contemporary, classical, avant-garde, and improvisational jazz artists are scheduled to perform in free and tickets concerts, conduct public master classes, participate in school residency activities, and engage in public discussions and seminars."
The largest of the Michigan grants were $75,000 each to the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
