New community theater group, Carriage House Theatre, will present 'Uncle Vanya'
CHT artistic director Forrest Hajkal wrote in an e-mail: "We're currently only a summer theatre, given the rustic (non-insulated) nature of our space, and the fact that many of us are currently in college, and therefore only in town during the summer. We're located at 541 Third Street, on the old west side between Jefferson and Madison.
"Our space is, as the name suggests, a recently renovated carriage house built around 1900. This antique building lends an excellent atmosphere to our first production, Chekhov's 'Uncle Vanya.' I've garnered a good bit of criticism for choosing such a hefty classic, as a young director with a young cast (our oldest members are 21), but I see it only as a chance to explore it in an exciting, nontraditional way."
CHT's performances of "Uncle Vanya" are scheduled Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m., June 23-July 2, and Sunday, June 26 at 2 p.m., at 541 Third St. Admission is free, with a $5 suggested donation. For more Info, visit facebook.com/carriage.house.theatre, or e-mail a message to CHTheatreA2@gmail.com.
