An exhibition at the University of Michigan Museum of Art features the work of an artist from an ancient tradition of Chinese painting.

"Tradition Transformed: Chang Ku-nien, Master Painter of the 20th Century" opened Saturday and runs through April 18 at the museum in Ann Arbor. It explores his development as an artist over his lifetime.

Trained in Shanghai, he resettled in Taiwan after the 1949 political upheaval. It compelled him to carry on the tradition of Chinese painting, which was diminished in China during the Cultural Revolution.
