No more Cobo concerts; new FrontStreet Records single; Charlie Sheen latest

The Detroit News reports that the upcoming renovation of Cobo Conference and Exhibition Center will mean the formal end to concerts at Cobo Hall. The News piece looks back on Cobo Hall's colorful history as one of the country's great rock venues.

FrontStreet Records, a regionally based label with a lot of local connections, today releases a new single: Rai Knight's "Without U," off a new EP called "Self Portrait." According to a press release, "Offering us a more profound and personal side, this tape was written and produced by Knight herself. What's more, Knight took the art of a mixtape and made it literal, offering limited edition cassette tapes through her website www.raiknightmusic.com. The lucky ones who snag a tape also get a sneak preview for Rai's new video 'Persistence.'" Hear or download the song at Knight's website.

Neil Young has announced a spring solo tour that will come to Detroit's Fox Theatre in May.

• There's still not much progress in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra musicians strike.

• Rolling Stone reports that The Monkees have resolved personal issues in advance of a 45th anniversary tour. (Michael Nesmith is still not a part of the reunion.)

TELEVISION

• We've heard this before ... With three new episodes left to air, the future of "Detroit 1-8-7" remains uncertain, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Charlie Sheen was inevitably, officially fired from "Two and a Half Men" yesterday, and he seems quite happy about it. And he says that if they keep making the show, even without him, he should still be paid. In other Charlie Sheen news, some think that being his social-media intern might not be such a good gig.

• CBS has renewed "How I Met Your Mother" for two more seasons.

Marc Anthony is joining the cast of "HawthoRNe."

MOVIES

• The Michigan Daily was not too impressed with the Ann Arbor-filmed "Cedar Rapids."

• Pitchfork reports that it seems likely that Trent Reznor will both write the score for and appear in the upcoming "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

• Speaking of soundtracks, Consequence of Sound previews the Chemical Brothers' music for the upcoming "Hanna."

THEATER

• The Milan News-Leader previews Milan High School's upcoming production of "Fiddler on the Roof."

COMEDY

• Comedian Mike DeStefano, who was only in his 40s, has died. He had been expected to perform at the upcoming LaughFest in Grand Rapids.

ONLINE

Jennifer Aniston has done a pretty funny video for SmartWater that pokes fun at various Internet cliches.
